Hitman: Ricky Hatton

£10,000.00

4ft x 4ft (122 × 122 cm)
Original Decollage on Cradled Wood Panel (7.5 cm)
Blue Neon Crown
Resin Finish with 24 Carat Gold Leaf

Made with appropriated street posters from Manchester, boxing imagery, spray paint, ink, layered halftone portrait work, 24 carat gold leaf.

The surface has been torn back, rebuilt and layered over time, reflecting both the journey of a fighter and the city that helped shape him. Hidden throughout the work are references drawn from Hatton's career and personal life, embedded within layers of ripped posters, graffiti and surface texture.

Ricky Hatton was a world champion boxer but more than that he was the people’s champion, a symbol of Manchester, carrying the pride, humour and fighting spirit of the city onto the world stage.

The blue neon crown represents earned status. In graffiti culture, a crown marks respect gained through impact, loyalty and legacy rather than title alone.

The weathered and decayed surface reflects the advertising boards found throughout the streets of Manchester, where layers of posters have been built up, torn back and exposed to the elements over time. The resin surface preserves this history while allowing fragments of paper, texture and signs of decay to remain visible within the work.

Look closely and you'll find fragments of biography hidden amongst the layers, references that reveal themselves slowly as the surface is explored.

“Hitman” celebrates the spirit of a fighter who never forgot where he came from.
